Major Russian Assaults Disrupt Electricity Across Ukraine's Capital

Power facilities under attack in Ukraine
The country's energy systems have faced escalating strikes in recent weeks

During the night, Russian missile and drone strikes have led to blackouts in extensive areas of the capital city, Kyiv.

Nine people were hurt while residents in the city's east were plunged into darkness and dealt with interruptions to drinking water, according to local authorities.

At the same time, a seven-year-old child was killed in a different aerial attack in the southeastern region in the country's south-east, based on information from local officials.

Russian forces has escalated attacks on energy facilities over the last fortnight, while the country's government has requested "real steps" from international partners to increase pressure on Russia.

"The necessity is not symbolic gestures but decisive action - from the America, Europe and the Group of Seven - in delivering air defence systems and applying penalties," was stated in a online statement.

Authorities reported that hundreds of unmanned aircraft and over thirty projectiles attacked energy facilities, describing such assaults as "strategic and deliberate" and against "everything that sustains normal life" as the weather cools.

Government representatives said Moscow was "launching a major assault" and technical staff were working to restore power.

A wave of strikes struck electrical systems and apartment buildings in Kyiv.

Several of the people injured in the strikes on the city have been hospitalized, as confirmed by municipal representatives.

Area administrators said the urban area experienced significant strikes during nighttime hours. A young boy lost their life and several individuals were hurt.

The attacks come after periods of aerial attacks in the territory, portions of which are currently controlled by Moscow's military.

The entire country is in a state of readiness for advanced weapon attacks, which are tougher to spot.

Authorities told journalists that Moscow was purposely seeking to damage the national power system, with strikes already affecting gas facilities.

Authorities confirmed technical personnel and authorities were anticipating further attacks.
